Do Ya Hear Me is a podcast that launched on January 18, 2020 and is co-hosted by Marissa Westwood and Rachael Perry.
Marissa is a 30-year-old multi-prenuer girl boss, juggling a full-time job, a spray tan company and is a tax professional. Marissa’s passion is to bring empowerment and confidence to all in their finances and personal appearance one appointment at a time.
Rachael is a 37-year-old multi-unit leader in retail. She loves to grow her business by developing other leaders and helping others reach their potential. Both had recently rededicated their lives to Christ in 2018 and met in a Shoreline City Dallas Connect Group in early 2019.
Getting involved in Connect Group was out of their element. Both girls had a life-changing encounter with Jesus but were navigating new territories – including building community with other women. As they began to get vulnerable and real with the connect group, they saw God cancel competition in their hearts, fill them with a desire to use their gifts, and bring healing over past hurt and toxic dating relationships. Marissa and Rachael became close, realizing they were walking through a lot of similarities in their faith journey.
They both come from different backgrounds, marital statuses, stories, and career paths, but found a friendship that was truly God-ordained. One of their favorite things included catching up and having deep girl talk convos with all the juicy details, tons of laughs, and BFF fun. They shared everything – failures, frustrations, and victories. They challenged each other and called one another higher – even when it was hard to hear.
Marissa and Rachael also realized that having an encounter with Jesus didn’t mean that their whole lives were completely figured out. In many ways, they were re-learning how to live, date, treat others, pursue a career, and grow in Christ. They realized that other women might be navigating the same ups and downs on their faith journey and were inspired to have these conversations in front of a mic.
From that day on, Do Ya Hear Me Podcast was born.
A safe, funny, and inclusive space where two imperfect BFFs run after a perfect God and share all their learnings along the way.
The journey of launching the podcast seemed easy. Amazon Prime a mic, hit record and upload, right?
In fact, the girls worked on the podcast for over 6 months before launching it. There were technical roadblocks that got in the way. After figuring that out, there were insecurity roadblocks. Turns out, once the mic is on, the girls weren’t sure they had anything to say.
Who would listen?
What if no one liked it?
What if the conversations weren’t authentic?
Once things were recorded, more technical issues came up like how to edit and add music. How do you upload a podcast, anyway? As each roadblock came up, Marissa and Rachael spent time in prayer separately and together. They asked God to put His hand on every episode and to mark it with His presence. Before recording, the girls played worship music and prayed that God would say what He wanted to say. When running into technical difficulties, the girls realized that God had placed so many experts in tech, podcasts, and audio editing in their lives already. He had already surrounded them with what they needed to get this podcast out.
This was a huge faith-building season for the girls. If things had come so easily, it would have been harder to be desperate for Jesus to be the main event.
Marissa and Rachael have just recorded DYHM EP 016 and are still learning more about this medium and each other. They continue to look to Jesus and a strong community to stay leaned into the vision of the podcast. Marissa and Rachael add,
“It’s not about us; it’s about what God can do to lift up the DYHM community. If we can tell our stories and people learn from our mistakes, fall more in love with Jesus and have fun doing it, it’s a win. We’re so thankful to be a part of their lives in that way.”
